Paul just a simple observation that until about 1970 - basically other than Harley - the vast majority of bikes were engined with motors of 650cc or less.

The classic Triumphs, BSA, Norton( just look at what the Manx did with 500 cc's, Royal Enfield's, BMW etc etc were all powered in the post war period with engines that produced a lot of power but were designed around a volume of 650cc or about 43 cubic inches

Our thumper engines meet the same targets in the present era.

As a rider of 40 years experience - when I head out to the shop for a pleasure ride or a day trip - unless something serious has to be accomplished in terms of distance or load - usually I will swing my leg over the Savage as a first choice.
